Non-adiabatic effect in electron screening in fusion reactions at astrophysical energies
We calculate the electron screening effect in low energy nuclear fusion reactions by taking non-adiabaticity of the tunnleing process into account. In order to investigate deviations from the adiabatic limit, we use the dynamical norm method, which has recently been developed by the present authors. Using d+D reaction as an example, we show that the screening energy never exceeds those estimate...
متن کاملRadiation correction to astrophysical fusion reactions and the electron screening problem
We discuss the effect of electromagnetic environment on laboratory measurements of the nuclear fusion reactions of astrophysical interest. The radiation field is eliminated using the path integral formalism in order to obtain the influence functional, which we evaluate in the semi-classical approximation. We show that enhancement of the tunneling probability due to the radiation correction is e...
متن کاملElectron screening effect on stellar thermonuclear fusion
We study the impact of plasma correlation effects on nonresonant thermonuclear reactions for various stellar objects, namely in the liquid envelopes of neutron stars, and the interiors of white dwarfs, low-mass stars, and substellar objects. We examine in particular the effect of electron screening on the enhancement of thermonuclear reactions in dense plasmas within and beyond the linear mixin...
متن کاملBound Electron Screening Corrections to Reactions in Hydrogen Burning Processes
We estimate the bare astrophysical S-factor(Sb(E)) of reactions in PP-chains, through a polynomial expression with the adiabatic enhancement factor due to the electron screening. The obtained Sb is significantly different from the simple extrapolation from high energy data, however Sb at zero incident energy is in agreement with the results of a recent R-matrix analysis.
متن کاملElectron transport and redox reactions in molecular electronic junctions.
Electron transport through single molecules or collections of molecules oriented in parallel can occur by several mechanisms, including coherent tunneling, activated transfer between potential wells, various "hopping" modes, etc. Given suitable energy levels and sufficiently long charge transport times, reduction or oxidation with accompanying nuclear reorganization can occur to generate "polar...
